Lent Day Thirty-Six

Day Thirty-six: The Women at the Tomb

A few years ago while in a seminary class, I took the defense of a female in the bible, and the professor stated that I was a feminist.  I must say that as a Christian I am proud to be labeled a feminist, in the fact that women were well represented and well placed in scripture. As a local church pastor I see the strength of our ladies in church and the "fact" that if a ministry is successful, a woman has had a strong involvement in it. Scripture presents many occurrences of women in regards to strength and  the worship of God's kingdom.

  1. When Jesus was taken from the cross, the women followed him.
  2. After this they returned to the city and prepared spices and ointments.
  3. Women were the first to discover that Christ was not in the tomb.
  4. Women were the first to see the risen Lord.
  5. Mary being selected to give birth to the Messiah.
  6. The woman at the well.
  7. The faith of the woman that requested Jesus to heal her daughter.
  8. The woman with the two coins.
  9. The woman that anointed Jesus prior to his crucifixion
In the time of Christ, the women were treated as second class citizens, but it was these second class citizens that never abandoned Jesus and whom God chose Jesus to come to first after his resurrection.  Today this blog speaks to my brothers in Christ in the hopes that they will follow the lead that women have taken in faith, hope, and promise of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Feminist

Pastor Tim.

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
